Allow me to introduce myself. My name is James Reed. My friends call me ‘The Old Troll’ or sometimes ‘Troll’ for short. That is how I got the name for my company, Old Troll Marketing. I am 48 years young (it’s a state of mind!), and I have been married for 28-1/2 years. I have 4 children and 4 stepchildren. Three are in heaven, and the rest are ages 10, 18, 21, 24, & 27. I also have 2 grandsons ages 3-1/2 and 3, and a five month old granddaughter.

My regular working career has been almost entirely in the field of building & industrial maintenance, currently including water and wastewater treatment. I also ran my own construction company (new construction & remodeling) for a number of years in addition to my regular job. My hobbies include: camping, fishing, a little golf, music (playing and listening to country & classic rock), and of course, cooking. I started my internet business as a new way to supplement my existing income.

You’re probably surprised that a guy is running a website selling cookbooks. Well, I happen to enjoy cooking! Both of my grandmothers were the type to cook everything from scratch without a recipe, so I learned at a young age to taste the food as I cooked. (I’ve always been well known for hanging around the kitchen when someone’s cooking and doing a little sampling!) My mother is a darn good cook in her own right, and most of her meals are made from scratch also.

My wife worked in food service for over 15 years so she’s also quite a cook. At home my wife and I share in the cooking responsibilities. We take turns cooking the family meals and sometimes we cook together. Like most people who cook we both have developed and fine-tuned our favorite recipes. We each have our own way of cooking with subtle variations in our cooking styles.

I firmly believe you can never have too many cookbooks. (Of course, I also have the same theory when it comes to fishing poles. Just look in our shed, and you’ll find about 30!) We have 30 cookbooks on our shelves, three 3-ring binders of recipes from magazines, and 63 cookbooks on disc. Yet, we’re always on the lookout for more recipes. There are currently 63 cookbooks on this site and I am working to add more, so please return occasionally.

Thank you for visiting and happy cooking!
